New Year's Entry
And here I go on another ranting spree...
Last night, despite everyone's slow "run" to poverty, the Philippine skies were lit with brightly colored flowers of light as the world welcomed Year 2005. My neighbors, beginning early, let a continuous barage of blasting fireworks throughout the night, ending only at exactly 12 mn, much to our relief. As usual, they employed the noisiest possible firecrackers to blast away the last hours of 2004, leaving behind a VERY thick smoky cloud and a VERY dirty street afterwards. Seriously. Every year we are forced to close all our windows shut because we once made a mistake of leaving it open and our curtains turned black with their soot. -__- we also end up with a very dirty garden and roof every year 'coz all their rockets seem to land in our roof. -__- That's because they not only own the house in front of us, they also own the empty lot beside us, and this lot they use every year in their apparent need for noise and smoke. -__- And they are VERY NOISY. As they were beginning, one of their louder-than-gunshot firecraker gave a really loud explosion which set the alarms of all their cars on and I think our house shook a little with that. Bern was outside then and she admitted that she felt the air really slam into everything in waves of impact. -__- This year however, we have another neighbor at the end of our street who seemed geared up to join in a fireworks competition with our next-door neighbor. They, however, chose beauty over power and gave a wonderful display of very pretty lights. ^^ Our neighbor's fireworks had little light and more sound. -__- I know, I know, I'm getting to sound evil and bitter... but it isn't really fun getting your ears blasted continually throughout the night. Some of their fire crackers sound like a gunshot ring in your ear, and I know how loud it is cause I've heard it 2 meters away without ear muffs. some sound like a continual pattering of rocks on our ceiling. And when I went out in the morning I DID find rocks in front of our house... *suspicious* hmm... Anyway, even though we were kind of trapped in till 12, as soon as our next door neighbor stopped, I ventured out to join bernice and it was such a sight I literally stood there for a few minutes with my mouth hanging. It was a beautiful night. The moon was very pretty and our street end neighbor were still letting Recca-like fireworks color the sky, (again) literally. The sky would actually turn red or green or blue or violet for a split second! WOW! And our subdivision is actually lucky because we happen to be residing a few distances away from the only "Perya" in QC. Pasko Pasiklab and their fireworks can actually be spotted from here. I'm not sure, but I think the fireworks of QC circle as well. ^_^ New year is great, but when I heard about Singapore deciding not to celebrate it and instead use the money for the tsunami victims, I kind of felt a little guilty that the Philippines isn't doing the same. ^_^ And all because of Chinese superstition and the claim of needing enjoyment amidst tragedy... *sigh* That's life... I didn't participate in any of the superstitions though. Not the wearing red, the coins in the pocket, the jumping at exactly 12mn to grow tall, nada. And my family didn't have any fireworks this year. We're being more practical. ^_^
We had a very tasty medya noche (did i get the spelling right? Am I even using the right term??) And then waited for the new year watching TV and playing T_b_a. ^_^
Anyway, today we went to Manila. We were supposed to hear mass in San Agustin, but there was no mass. ^^; We brought my grandma to the seaside and had a nice family-sort-of-gathering, then we had lunch in a YakiNiku restaurant. A good one, too. Then we took coffee (or in my case, hot chocolate) in Starbucks. Starbucks looks nice. They have a nice wintery-theme going, and I must admit I'm really starting to like winter. ^_^ I even saw a really cute red starbucks mug with snowflakes all over it. It was nice but expensive, oh well...
Then we dropped of our grandma. Hmm... See here Cara and Trina!: she can barely walk now. She walks, but at a VERY slow pace, and always with somebody helping her. So sad. But I realized that if she died, my mother's family ?MAY? never be as strong. u_u She's the backbone keeping them all together, seriously. So come back soon, cause I'm sure it will make her happy to see you guys. Her house is dark and lonely now without you guys. u_u And you-know-who is torturing her. >_<
Titanium rocks! ^_^ Geeky... you know what, some fire works explode into orbs and some into discs? I wonder how they are able to formulate such things when mixing up the chemicals of the rocket. o-o *geek mode*
