I can't possibly pass up such a controversial event, can I? Bitterness and sweetness fills the air, not to mention the sourness that the latter sometimes occasions to random (or still hurting) passers-by, and the blandness felt by the people with nothing to look forward to. XD
The interesting thing I have to blog about this event is the different nicknames people have bestowed upon it recently. Topping the list as the most appropriate has just got to be the nickname I picked up from Jessica Zafra's blog: KRIS AQUINO day. *nods head* Yes, it's quite appropriate, or at least I think so. Afterall, Valentines is annoying and so commercial. *cough*And overrated?*cough* We don't celebrate any other saints like we do St. Valentines, not even close. And we don't even know much about him! But still, this is one of those occasions that causes malls, stores, and everywhere to put festive decorations. Though that is not to say that we don't know anything about Kris Aquino. She's one of those celebrities you'd rather not hear about at all, and still the media hoists her on us like rain on the street. At some point, all those companies falling over themselves to hire her as an endorser are going to have to ask themselves, is she even effective? In case they haven't noticed, she annoys a lot of people. -_- Plus she jumps from endorsee to endorsee so much that once her contract ends, the company who hired her probably has to pay her not to endorse their enemy. -_- Anyway, back to the point, before I get too carried away with how annoying KA is.
Name two, SAD or simply Singles Awareness Day. True... Whether or not you are bitter, suddenly friends with significant others are abandoning you or gushing about plans you just don't intend to make. It's enough to make singles arrange huge singles parties, like the OchoUno annual Loveless gathering. ^^;
Name three: C-day. A bitter person's alternative to V-day. Corny, cheesy, cliche, commercial, common, feel free to add more. To quote someone's take on this name: "Parang di mo alam kung madidiri ka or matutuwa sa mga nagdadate pag-Valentines eh. Parang lahat kasi ganun. Corny!"
But personally, I'm neutral. (Hehe.. Did I just hear you gasp in disbelief: "After all that slandering!?! Neutral?") It's cause Valentines in UP means lots of breaks in our subjects due to fund-raising serenades, lot's of jokes and teasing aimed at the "taken ones" or the "bitter ones", free-days from the more considerate teachers, and even gifts like free chocolates and what not from friends with unwanted admirers. Hehe... What's not to like?
Valentines bitterness is an aftertaste. And you can't get the aftertaste without having a taste first. :p So stay away and stay bland and happy! :p
